The Bees Move Inside...

Here the bees begin their march into the hive, following the scent of their Queen. What the beekeeper looks for here is the general trend of the bee movement... an indicator that when the bees were shaken off the bush and into the nuc box the Queen was among those who tumbled inside.

A large swarm like this may appear at first to be strong, but since hives issue successive swarms, this may be the old queen with the first swarm. Later swarms may be smaller, but be headed by a young queen. Sometimes the small swarms are the best ones.

After the bees were well inside the box, the top was secured, the front doorway shut with screen, and the new hive moved to the bee yard
