In Ben Finney's classic- Surfing The Sport of Hawaiian Kings, he mentions Honoipu as having located there a break named Puakea. There is at this spot a small peak that is bodysurf/boogeyboardable by the most expert of surfers. Carfully picking waves, so as to miss the razor sharp rocks, one can manage some decent rides... entry and exit of the water, over the sharp rocks, is tricky.This, however, is probably not the Puakea of old. When the fiercest waves march down from the North and pound these shores, a great and epic surf breaks here. The break really begins to form at somewhere around 20+ feet and, as one might expect, is a spectacular rarity.
